The presentation will focus on the history of the opioid epidemic, the impact on society and the current treatment modalities available. The lecture will also focus on safe prescribing practices for the dentist with an update on the latest rules regarding prescribing narcotics.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the etiology of addiction disorders
  • Understand the current regulations on narcotic prescriptions
  • Understand an evidence-based approach to pain management

To receive CE credit, member dentists must complete an online exam after watching the course. 

This program meets the Ohio State Dental Board (OSDB) requirement of continuing education in opioid prescribing and addiction awareness. This program also meets the training requirement for Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registrants when combined with six hours of education from courses with similar content provided by the ODA or other DEA-approved training organizations
